Reports coming out of Australia state that Wallabies and Reds playmaker Quade Cooper has decided to throw in the towel as far as Australian Rugby is concerned.
Cooper has been approached several times by Rugby League teams in recent times and has also voiced his unhappiness at playing under Wallabies coach Robbie Deans.
Cooper was fined $40,000 the Australian Rugby Union (ARU) for his public comments over Deans and the ARU saying that it was a "toxic environment" but Cooper later said that he did not behave in the manner that Wallabies are expected to behave.
The Reds playmaker was the inspiration for the Queenslanders in their 2011 Super Rugby title but an injury sustained at the 2011 Rugby World Cup has limited has game time since.
Cooper's injury has caused him to miss the Wallabies end of year tour as he had to have surgery again on his knee.
It is understood that Cooper has a three year contract with the Queensland Rugby Union but Channel Nine reporter Danny Weidler says that the flyhalf has given up on rugby in Australia after he was given an uninspiring top up offer from Australian Rugby Union.
While Cooper is contracted to the Queensland Rugby Union for him to be able to play Super Rugby in 2013 he needs to have a contract with the ARU.
The ARU say that they have received no official word from Cooper but if he does leave he will not struggle for offers in either league or European based teams and has even been linked to a career in boxing and has been training in the sport already.
Quade Cooper is one of Rugby's most popular Tweeters but he has made no comment about his future on his Twitter account since the reports first broke of his departure.
