Lions Players Turning On John Mitchell

A player uprising against Lions coach John Mitchell could see the pragmatic New Zealand mentor axed.

Beeld reports that several players are unhappy with the way Mitchell has been treating them and have voiced their unhappiness to Golden Lions Rugby Union president Kevin de Klerk earlier this week.

Mitchell’s pragmatism has been both his gift and his curse. His success as All Black coach up until his sacking after New Zealand’s World Cup semi-final loss to Australia in 2003 and last year’s Currie Cup triumph speak volumes of the success of his coaching philosophy.

However, when results do not materialise, as is currently the case at the Lions and were the case at the Western Force, Mitchell’s militaristic nature wears thin.
