It looks like Jaco Taute has made up his mind in his deliberation over where to play his Super Rugby next year, with the Stormers set to beat off the interests of the Sharks and the Bulls in the new Springbok.
The Cape Times quoted Taute’s agent Eduard Kelder on Thursday as saying that Cape Town was where the 21-year-old would head at the end of this season as he looks to further his education in big rugby after showing great promise for the Lions, who have been relegated from Super Rugby.
“Jaco has decided that WP is the place to that he really wants to go to. We are just busy negotiating to come to the desirable terms, which we are very close to coming to,” said Kelder.
Taute can play fullback or centre, with the latter position being where he made his debut for the Boks against Australia at Loftus two weeks ago.
However he is likely to be considered mostly as a fullback by the Stormers.
The youngster should be the fourth player currently with the Lions who will be playing for the Stormers next year. Flyhalf Elton Jantjies, also a new Springbok, is set to sign a loan agreement similar to Taute’s, which should mean the players link up with the Lions again after Super Rugby.
It’s a different story with Bok prop Pat Cilliers and the Lions’ former Sharks loose-forward Michael Rhodes, both of whom have signed two year contracts with the Cape union.
