Reds captain Will Genia says that he cannot understand the TMO's decision not to award Liam Gill a try in their Super Rugby qualifier match.The Reds reign as Super Rugby champions came to an end when they lost 17-30 to the Sharks on Saturday in a Semi-final qualifier.
Genia spoke after match did not blame the decision for their loss but did say that it had a big impact on the match and therefore the result.
The Reds were blown away early in the match by the Sharks defence and attack as the South Africans went out to a 0-17 lead.
"We were inside their 22 at the start of the game but we released pressure by knocking balls on at the back of the ruck," said Genia.
After the Reds lost fly half Ben Lucas to injury Genia moved into the number 10 position which eventually produced some dividends and the Reds trailed 10-20 at half time.
The Reds showed determination early in the second half and started to dominate possession and then flanker Liam Gill barged over to score.
South African Referee Jonathan Kaplan referred the decision on the try to TMO Matt Goddard and he responded by saying evidence was inconclusive despite replays showing otherwise.
Genia was left perplexed by the decision and said, "I thought we scored a try off Gill's pick and go, but I don't understand how it was wasn't conclusive," Genia said.
"I felt if we got that try we were back in the game - it's very disappointing to finish on a sad note like that."
